Tips and Tricks for Marketing an Upcoming Event

You have an upcoming event, and you want it to be as successful as possible. You’ve booked the venue, delegated tasks to your team, and called various vendors. Don’t forget to market the event to ensure enough people come to make it worthwhile! Today, Rocky Mount Event Center shares some tips and tricks for marketing an upcoming event.

Start Early

Once you know when and where the upcoming event is going to occur, start your marketing efforts immediately. Take to social media. Post about it on your website. Talk to potential sponsors to seek financial help for your event. The sooner you market your event, the greater traction it gains leading up to the actual date.

Market to Many Channels

Marketing takes many forms, and you want to touch as many channels as possible. Use your website, your email contact list, and your social media platforms to spread the word in the digital domain. Traditional marketing is also extremely effective. For example, billboards, meet-and-greets, press releases, and paper mail are great ways to tout your upcoming event.

Be Specific and Concise

Marketing for your upcoming event must be specific. It must also answer the five Ws (who, what, where, when, why) as concisely as possible. List the name of the event, date, location, host organization or business, and reason for the event in your materials.

For example, a Facebook event announcement might say, “Welcome to Acme Brick’s First Annual Wall Building Competition, March 1st through 3rd at Rocky Mount Event Center, showcasing the best bricklayers in North Carolina!”

That single sentence concisely answers all five questions your potential attendees must know about the event. When you expand these answers to an email message or an entire webpage, be sure to write compelling and energetic copy that engages your audience.

Seek Sponsors or Donors

Every upcoming event needs monetary backing to help defray your costs and make the event financially viable. Seek out sponsors or donors for your event. You don’t necessarily need a title sponsor to have success, nor do donations have to come in monetary form. Donors and sponsors can lend their support by providing volunteers, supplies, food, drinks, awards, advertisements, and more.

Involve the Community

Get your community involved in your upcoming event as much as you can. When everyone in the community comes out and enjoys your event, they talk about it for days or even weeks afterward. When you decide to host the event again in the future, everyone who attended the first one will remember the good times they had and will want to participate again.
