5 Things You Should Never Bring to a Concert

It’s the day of the concert! You’ll spend the day getting ready, listening to your favorite albums from the artist, and meeting your friends for a fun day. Before you head to the venue, you need to know what to bring so you can prepare ahead of time.

Keep reading to find out what to leave at home before heading to your next live music extravaganza. We want you to have the best concert experience possible!

1. Weapons of Any Kind

Any kind of weapon is forbidden inside the premises of Rocky Mount Event Center. Most concert venues have a similar ban. Even if it’s legal to carry certain weapons in the city where the concert venue is located, laws typically leave it up to individual business owners whether to allow weapons on the premises.

Weapons include knives, firearms, sharp objects, swords, and other weapons. Check with the concert venue to verify their rules on weapons. If you don’t, even small, unassuming items like keychain knives might be confiscated.

2. Animals

You’ve seen the memes and jokes about exotic emotional support animals such as alligators, skunks, and squirrels. We do not allow animals of any kind in Rocky Mount Event Center, with an exception for service animals. Make sure your service animal has their vest on so we can clearly see the markings that they’re a service animal.

Animals and pets typically do not like the loud noises of a concert anyway. Many animals, like dogs and cats, have better hearing than humans. If you think the music is loud to you, what would your pet think?

3. Babies

Babies also probably shouldn’t come to a concert. Just like pets, loud music and a busy environment may overwhelm your baby. Baby’s ears are susceptible to ear infections and sudden sounds. Ear problems can lead to hearing loss and long-term damage.

If you can’t find a sitter for your baby, be prepared for the event. Bring noise-canceling headphones to protect them from loud noises. Try to stay away from speakers and sound systems, so try to get tickets far from the stage so you can protect your baby’s ears.

But you should also try to get seats near a bathroom for diaper changes. Bring a diaper bag stocked with formula, bottles, diapers, diaper cream, a changing pad, a change of clothes, a burp cloth, nursing covers, and everything your child needs.

4. Signs

We understand that signs are a quick and easy way to be spotted on cameras or convey your message to the artist on stage. However, they are big, bulky, and disruptive to the overall concert experience.

Think of the other people at the concert and the logistics of having a large sign with you. You’ll have to carry it around with you everywhere you go for the duration of the show. Holding up the sign can poke others, block the view, and annoy people behind you.

If you’re too disruptive with your sign, you could be asked to leave the concert, and that’s not fun for anyone. If you want to connect with your favorite artist, reach out to them on social media. You might see if there are special behind-the-scenes tickets you can get that let you connect with your favorite artist backstage or before the show with meet-and-greet opportunities.

5. Bulky Bag or Bulky Wallet

Bring only the essentials to your concert experience. You could lose your items, or they could get stolen. We highly recommend that you bring only what you can carry. You’ll only be at the concert for three hours at most. Keys, cell phone, tickets, and wallet or purse are all the essentials you need for a good night out.

You won’t need to bring five credit cards with you, just one form of payment and your ID, and maybe some cash. For the ladies, bringing a crossbody purse will make you less likely to accidentally put it down and forget it. Crossbody purses can also prevent theft. Many venues also have a clear bag policy for security purposes. Be sure to double-check the venue’s specific policies.
